2009-10-19T13:32:52Z 4 true 36 I started training maybe 18 months ago? I enjoyed keeping fit and after 3 months I realised I was hooked. Great bunch of guys at our gym with lots of ability and things are now getting more serious with people competing regularly. Personally, it has benefited me as a person I think, my confidence has improved in everyday life and also gives me something to focus on and achieve which I needed. Great gym, Great people, Great training. My previous sporadic martial arts training has, quite frankly, taught me very little of any use except against the choreographed moves for which they were designed - very rarely experienced outside of a controlled training environment. Here, the 'alive' approach to training, the willingness to ADOPT techniques that work and the willingness to DROP techniques that don't combines to create a highly effective delivery system that improves fitness; inspires confidence and is focused on personal development. Since joining I have been made to feel extremely welcome from the start. Everyone is encouraged to coach their training partner regardless of ability and the lack of formality creates a great atmosphere. If you're at all undecided, come along for your intro class - I guarantee you'll notice the difference. I've tried several clubs over the years and find that I do like this one...quite a lot. It has a good cross section of people; those who just want to get fit, those who are been training for years, those who have just started to train and want to learn a few good basic techniques and those who want to learn before it taking up professionally. No ego, no smellies, no BS. Just some good honest advice and if you forget it, there is always the opportunity to be reminded again without any hassles or sarcastic remarks...................... 1895538 1 Ian Milne - Health & Safety professional 2009-10-28T17:15:58Z 2009-10-20T17:23:06Z 4 false 51 I started training martial arts 25 years ago in TaeKwon-Do, a variety of other styles & reality based self defence. All the groups gave me false promises based on delusion and mis-sold their product as being the world's most powerful martial art etc. I became an instructor in some of these arts and suffered politics, rhetoric, spent thousands on training, competing, courses, seminars, and travel all in the pursuit of being able to defend myself. Then one day I started training at Aliveness Gym and realised that much of what I'd learned was a waste of time - I really wasn't that able to defend myself. All the guys at Aliveness Gym went through me like a knife to butter! Ego bashed, very disappointed, but a huge wakeup call. I've been a member ever since and my ability, knowledge, coaching, confidence, and happiness has improved markedly. All the guys and girls in the gym are truly helpful, professional and my friends. I wouldn't advise anyone to go anywhere else. Thanks Aliveness Gym. The curriculum at Aberdeen's Aliveness Gym totally opened my eyes to the fact that this is unnecessary and in fact hinders progress. By practising techniques with resisting training partners it's so much easier to gauge what is effective than it is training with a 'dummy'! In the short time I've been with the Aliveness Gym I have learned more than I did combined in all of my previous training experiences, got in better shape and gained confidence by doing something that I really enjoy. The friendly atmosphere within the training group is great and I've picked up lots of helpful tips along the way to help improve all aspects of my BJJ. All of this adds up to create a great package that I'd wholeheartedly recommend to anyone. Alan Beattie 1895538 1 Member 2009-10-28T17:19:25Z
